It is an episode that could be the subject of a Screenwriting 101 lecture entitled "Never Ever Do These Things."
Never have a character get pregnant as a plot point, especially when your resolution must take place in the same episode. Never ignore the issue of consent. Never change the laws of time, space, and biology just to make your story make sense. Never use a child's death as a cheap emotional manipulation tactic. Never have decisions about a female character's life decided by a committee of men who ignore her agency. Never have your female characters make sudden and unexplained decisions that could be chalked up to "women are irrational." Never rely on a childbirth scene to carry the tension or create drama.
